This site is dedicated to some old DOS games - those that I played in the 90's and left me a lasting memory. My favourite MS-DOS games
Since Windows95, the games have been relying on DirectX for managing graphics, sound, and peripherics. Nowadays 3D is the standard, nothing
to say about that, it produced lots of beautiful games. And especially the "Ultima" saga : I discovered this series in 1990, with Ultima 6. It was my first video game, and since I had no experience in RPG, I found it very hard to achieve ! It took me several months with the help from other players. Without today's internet, I had to order the official "Clue Book" from Origin because I was stuck in the very end of the game (missing the word triggering Ephemerides' answer for the blue lens). I really loved this game.
Naturally, in the following years I played "Ultima 7" ("Black Gate" and "Serpent Isle"), "Utima 8" (disappointing), and
"Utima 9" (nice, but some dungeons had illogical and very artificial challenges). A few years ago, I felt like playing these games again. So I bought Origin's "Ultima Collection" (U1 to U8) and tried to install and run them under Win98. It didn't give good results : no sound, crashes sometimes... I finally used the excellent DosDox program, which I recommend to everyone wishing to run MS-Dos games under Windows. It manages to run these games with all features working fine (especially the sound). In this site you'll mainly find resources extracted from some MS-DOS games. It's difficult not to mention also a few early-windows games, so here's a small section about ... My favourite windows old-games
I don't have much time to spend on playing anymore since several years, but I'll just mention the last titles under windows that I appreciated somehow :
